Breaking the parenting rules

(Inspired by LMM)
  • My son is a horrible sleeper. (period)
  • He wakes up multiple times in the middle of the night as if he were a newborn.
  • He will be three in September, so he is clearly past the newborn stage.
  • When my hubby travels, he creeps into my bed around 1 a.m. (usually, I'm in a deep sleep that I don't notice)
  • Last night, I did. :)
  • He climbed into my bed and I smiled.
  • He arranged the pillows to the way he wanted them and then curled into Mommy.
  • His feet have to be touching my legs for him to be comfortable.
  • He tosses and turns for a bit and in a matter of minutes, he's asleep.
  • I hold him close and give his nose kisses.
  • I love kissing his nose and his toes (it's what I've done since the day he was born)
  • I smile, in hopes that his eyes crack open and he sees me smiling at him, but he doesn't.
  • I'm okay with that.
  • I'm breaking the parenting rules by letting my toddler sleep in my bed every.single.night.
  • Is that bad?
  • This is just a battle that I don't wish to pick, because secretly, I enjoy him wanting to have his Mommy close to him.
  • When he does this, it cancels out all the crankiness that I dealt with earlier in the day.
  • Until around the 5/6 o'clock hour when he's yelling from the couch in the living room.
  • "MOMMMMMMMYYYYYYYY! I want chocolate milk. I want to watch teeeeeeveeeeeeee. MOMMMMMMYYYYYYY, come out here!"
  • Then I moan and groan because I got less than 6 hours of sleep and now I'm groggy.
  • And I'm out of creamer for my coffee....
  • But I love my son.
  • The good. The bad. The ugly.
  • and I look forward to my 1 a.m. snuggle time!
